Venue
The Diggers and Sports Club is at Level 1, 9 Beach Rd, Surfers Paradise, Queensland 4217. Reception is on the first floor and we will be playing upstairs in the Coral Sea Room and Anzac Deck. There is an escalator to Reception and a lift as well as stairs upstairs to the playing area. Please consider joining the club when you first arrive – this will speed up entry to the club and of course give you food and drink discounts throughout the weekend. The playing area and adjacent courtyard is exclusively ours for the weekend.
Travel by air
Surfers Paradise is on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The closest airport is Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta (OOL). Buses, taxis or Ubers will transfer you between the airport and your accommodation. If you have to fly to Brisbane (BNE) Airport, there is a train service direct to the Gold Coast but it takes a couple of hours and you will need to transfer to the Gold Coast tram service at Helensvale if you are staying in Surfers or anywhere on the coast.
Travel by road
From the north, take the M1 Exit 66 (Smith St Motorway) all the way to the Gold Coast Highway and head south to Surfers Paradise.
From the south, take the M1 Exit 87 (Southport Burleigh Rd) which becomes Bundall Rd then Ferry Rd. Turn right onto Thomas Drive towards Surfers.
Parking
The Diggers and Sports Club is right opposite the Bruce Bishop public car park. If you only enter and exit once per day, the cost is $15 or you can get an unlimited entry/exit 3-day pass for $32. Full rates here: https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Services/Roads-transport-parking/Parking/Council-carparks/Bruce-Bishop-Carpark
Accommodation
This is the heart of Surfers Paradise so there is plenty of choice within easy walking distance. The Novotel, Mantra and Beachcomber have been the choice of backgammoners in our recent events.
Shop around, there are always good deals to be had.
